I learned Helium is unharmful to living beings and that it is used to treat severe asthma and is mixed with oxygen for deep sea diving! Helium was first discovered on the sun, hence the name helium which is derived from the greek word Helios. There are no minerals bearing Helium and it is not reactive to any other element or iron! It is a small light gaseou material.

Mercury!! Mercury is a heavy, silvery, metallic mineral. Mercury, for example, is necessary in fluorescent light tubes. Mercury is very bad for your body!! Once mercury is in the body, it causes nervousness, trembling, personality changes, and in extreme cases, even dementia. DONT GET IN YOUR BODY!

SILICON
Sources
Silicon is recovered from an abundant resource: sand. Most pure sand is quartz, silicon dioxide (SiO2). limestone-
there are alot of hydraulic, hydrated, quick and slake. Limestone is also and mostly associated with dolomite. It was used in 80 percent of construction in the 1900's and today it is 90 percent of chemical and industrial uses.
Uses- steel manufacturing, power plant smoke stacks, mining, paper and paper pulp production, water treatment and purification wastewater treatment.
Properties- soluble in acid and is composed of calcium carbonate.

Feldspar
Feldspar is the single most abundant mineral group on Earth. All together, the varieties of feldspar account for one half of the Earth’s crust. Feldspar is the mineral name given to a group of minerals distinguished by the presence of aluminum and the silica ion in their chemistry.
Can come in many colors, its opacke.
Feldspar is used to make dinnerware and bathroom and building tiles. In ceramics and glass production, feldspar is used as a material that lowers the melting temperature of another material.
Salt, composed of sodium chloride (NaCl), is one of the necessities of life for man and animals. Even in earliest times, man valued salt licks, springs, and marshes, and would go to great effort to visit them and carry salt away. In addition to the natural craving for salt which develops when it is absent from the diet, salt is valuable for preserving meats in hot climates.

I did my research on the diamind and i found that the diamond was made from carbon and is the hardest mineral or substance in the world and graphite is also sed with carbon and is the softest mineral in the world. i think its kind f weird that two minerals made of the same thing (carbon) are the total oppisite of each other

I studied Diamond. Diamonds are grown very deeply in the earths crust. It is the hardest substance on earth (10 on Mohs scale). It is usually created into jewlerey. Grafite (the softest on Mohs scale) is also made out of carbon. Carbon is what makes diamond.

Used in clorhine and caustic sodas. I also know it is in my lamp in my bedroom. It is used in flurescent lightbulbs.

Talc is the softest mineral. It is a 1 on the Mohs scale. Since it is so soft it can be cut or crushed easily, so it is commonly used as an ingredient in ceramics, paper, paint, roofing, plastics, cosmetics, talcum and baby powders, and a variety of other assorted uses such as making rubber and plastics. Before the days of furnaces, blocks of talc were heated on stoves and used as bed warmers.

Some Uses of Zinc- protective coating on steel, die casting, an alloying metal with copper to make brass and chemical compounds in rubber and paints
Facts- Zinc is mined in about 40 countries with China as the leading producer, followed by Australia, Peru, Canada, and the United States.
In the U.S., mine production mostly comes from Alaska. Tennessee, and Missouri.

the minerals in side of dianoms are formed from the element carbon, One is graphite which is one of the softest minerals on Earth. The other is diamond which is the hardest substance on Earth (10 on Mohs' hardness scale). The difference in hardness is due to the way the carbon atoms attach to one another. In diamond, they attach in a three-dimensional manner that mineralogists describe as a framework.

My mineral is Kyanite. The name Kyanite come form the greek word Cyaite.The most impotant deposits of kyanite happen in Idaho.One of its propertys is that it is kind of shiny.

-Iodine is shiny blue-black element and it is a solid.
-Iodine has tons of uses. Silver iodine is used in photography, Iodide is a disinfectant, iodine compounds are used as catalyst, and other uses are animal feeds, table salt and inks.
-There are no substitutes for some of Iodine's uses.
-Iodine is Greek for violet.
-When iodine gets heated it goes from a solid to a gas.
-If a body does not have enough iodine then the thyroid gland in the neck will enlarge.

Isn't coal non-renewable? Since it uses 23% of the US's energy we should find some different ways to use energy like wind and sun power.
Then we could stop pollution and globasl warming. It would be a great thing.

What are the uses of Kyanite? I think it's cool that Kyanite means blue in Greek, because I did Iodine and it means violet.
I chose pumice. It is a rock formed from volcanic eruptions. It's usually light colored high in silica content and low in iron content. It is a softer rock. It is often found next to my favorite rock ,that I was dissapointed in not finding, obsidian.
It is used to make lightweight construction materials such as concrete block and concrete. It is used in abrasives, washing blue jeans, horticulture, and landscaping. Made for lightweight cement for finishing floors and building interiors.

I never knew that if the body didn't have enough iodine the thyroid gland would enlarge. It's in the neck too. I just imagine some gigantic buldge in the neck. XD

Pumice is a type of volcanic rock. Pumice is the only rock that floats on water, but once it gets waterlogged it will sink. It is usually light in color. Pumice is used to make lightweight construction materials. There is no lack of pumice, as world has an extensive resource.

Cobalt
Used in superalloys for jet engines recharble batteries.
United states consumes 1/3 of the worlds colbalt. Cobalt is bluish gray matierial it's atomic number is 27. It was named after the german word kobald which means goblin or evil spirit.
