Tell me about Sedimentary rocks. Where do they come from, what types are there, what are some examples and where do we find them? Anything else you learned?
Sedimentary rocks are born cool and on the earth's surface, but mostly underwater. Some types of these are clastic sedimentary rocks, which an example of this type of sedimentary rock is sandstone which comes from the sediment in sand. Another type is organic sedimentary rock. An example of this is limestone(carbonate). Also chemical sedimentary rock and the example of this is gypsum. This type of chemical sedimentary rock is formed after calcite. I learned that there isn't just one type of sedimentary rock, which is what I thought before all of the notes and things we have taken.
Sedimentary rocks are cool at the earths surface usually found under water. The most common type of sedimentary rocks are clastic sedimentary rocks. Quartz and clay minerals are examples of sedimentary rocks. Sand and mud is carried down. Sand is made of quartz and mud is made of clay minerals.
They are the second g.reat rock class. They are mostly made underwater. Clastic, organic and chemical are the three types of sedimentary rocks. Clastic is the most common.
Sedimentary rocks are born cool on the Earth's surface. One type of sedimentary rock is clastic. Another type is organic. Examples of sedimenatry rocks are clay and quartz.
sedimentary rocks are born cool at the Earth's surface, mostly under water. They usually consist of layers or strata, hence they are also called stratified rocks. A type of sedimantry rock is sandstone! I love sandstone:) Another type of sedimantry rocks is Limestone. Limestone is sedimentary rock formed from the skeletons and shells of ocean organisms that consists chiefly of calcium carbonateare limestone.
Sedimentary rocks are the second great rock class. Whereas igneous rocks are born hot, sedimentary rocks are born cool at the Earth's surface, mostly under water. They usually consist of layers or strata, hence they are also called stratified rocks. Depending on what they're made of.

Sedimentary rocks are mostly born then cool on the surface of the earth. There are lots of types of sedimentary rocks. Some made of mud or some made of sand.They can be found underwater. I learned that sandstone is sedimentary.
Sedimentary rocks our formed under intense pressure there for are usually found under water [or were water used to be]. There is Clastic, Chemical and Organic. Organic sedimentary rocks our formed from dead use to be living things. Plankton etc. that is smashed intill it is a rock.
they come from granular materials like mud and sand. there are clastic, chemical, and organic types of sedimentary rock. some examples are limestone coal and gypsum. they are usally found under the ocean.
@ andrew ehrman if they are usally found under the ocean why are so many on the surface? if you know please tell me.

Sedimentary rocks are the second great rock class.sedimentary rocks are born cool at the Earth's surface, mostly under water. Clastic Sedimentary Rocks: The most common set of sedimentary rocks consist of the granular materials that occur in sediment: mud and sand and gravel and clay. Organic Sedimentary Rocks: Another type of sediment actually forms in the sea as microscopic organisms — plankton — build shells out of dissolved calcium carbonate or silica. I also learned that there is more than one type of sedimentary rock.
Sedimentary rocks are born cool from the earths surface, most are under water. Ex: sedimentary rock is sandstone which comes from the sediment in sand. surface minerals consist of quartz and clays — that are made by the physical breakdown and chemical alteration of rocks. Sediment is cemented into rock like sand becomes sandstone and clay becomes shale.
sedimentary rocks start cool and they are on the earths surface but they are manely under water thes are somtimes calstic rocks and and an example of this is sand stone.
They are the second class. And they are born cool usally in the ocean. They are made of layers of diffrent types of rocks. There many types of sedimentary rock. Sience they are made of diffrent subtances. You could find One in your back yard.
Sedimentary rocks are the second great rock class.sedimentary rocks are born cool at the Earth's surface, mostly under water.The most common set of sedimentary rocks consist of the granular materials that occur in sediment: mud and sand and gravel and clay.
the different types of sedimentary rocks are-clastic,organic,and chemical.
clastic-consists of mud,sand,gravel and clay they are made by the physical breakdown and chemical alteration of rocks.As the sediments are steadily buried over geologic time, they get packed together under pressure and low heat, not much more than 100°C.
organic- organic rocks are forms in the sea as plankton. plankton build shells out of dissolved calcium carbonate or silica. Dead plankton steadily shower their small shells onto the seafloor, where they accumulate in thick layers. That material turns to two more rock types, limestone and chert.
chemical- The same ancient shallow seas sometimes allowed large areas to become isolated and begin drying up. In that setting, as the seawater grows more concentrated, minerals begin to precipitate, starting with calcite, then gypsum, then halite. The resulting rocks are certain limestones or dolomites, gypsum rock, and rock salt respectively. These rocks, called the evaporite sequence, are also part of the sedimentary chain.
Chert can also form by precipitation. This usually happens below the sediment surface, where different fluids can circulate and interact chemically.
Sedimentary rocks are born cool at the eaths surface, Mostly underwater.They usually consist of layers or strata which means they are satrified rocks.There are 3 types of sedimentary rocks and they are Clastic, Organic and Chemical. You can mainly find them either underwater or where water washes up onto earths surface.
sediments can be made of many different materials; mud, sand, gravel. sedimentary rocks are usually found underwater. some examples of sedimentary rocks are sand stone, which is sand formed tother. and lime, which really comes from another type of sdiment rock called organic sedimentary.
Sedimentary rocks usually come from wet areas, such as oceans, rivers, lakes, seas, etc. Some types are clastic sedimentary rocks, organic, and chemical sedimentary rocks. Some examples are limestone, silica, sandstone, and breccia. We find sedimentary rocks around oceans, seas, lakes, rivers, etc. I didn't learn much else here.
But what I want to know is How are these rocks made in the ocean? I ponder that a lot in this unite. I can understand that rock are made under water but how and it be compacted together?!?!
Sedimentary rocks are born on the earths surface, but modtly underwater. Types of these are clastic, organic, and chemical. An example of clastic is quartz. An example of organic is limestone. An example of chemical is gypsum.
josh parsons-The sedimentary rocks forms cool and under water.clastic is first type and can be found anywhere. organic type can be found where there are oceans. chemical is last type and can be found in seas that have isolated and dried up large areas of the sea.
@Andrew Ehrman Oh I forgot to add this to my post, your's reminded me! Anyways I found it interesting/weird how dead plankton is squashed and made into rocks. I know it's a fossil but it still interests me.
Sedimentary rocks come mostly from underwater because they are born cool. One type of sedimentary rock is clastic which is made out of mud, sand, gravel, and clay. Another type is organic and that is where dead planton and rock layers over each other. Another type is Chemical which forms from chemical reactions. They are usally found in earth and rocks like the Grand Canyon.
Sedimentary rocks come mostly underwater, but some cool on the earths surface. the types of sedmentary rocks are: *Clastic. *Chemical. *Organic. some examples are: *Limestopne. *Bauxite. *Dolostone. You can find them sand in mud. by the deltas.
Sedimentary rocks mostly are formed underwater. The types are Clastic, Organic and Chemical. Some examples are calcite, limestone and gypsum. Clastic sedimentary rocks are the most popular.
Sedimentary rocks are the second great rock class of the world. There are three different types of them. They are organic, chemical, and classic sedimentary rocks. Classics are found in sediment such as mud sand and clay. Examples if this type are quartz and clays. Organic are found on the seafloor where dead plankton shells become compacted together onto sedimentary rock. Examples of the organic type are limestone and chert. The last type is chemical. These also start to for on the seafloor but become isolated and begin to dry up and minerals come out of the solution. The rocks that usually come out are rocksalt and gypsum rock. I learned that there is more than one type of sedimentary rock.
Sedimentary rocks are born cool at the earth's surface, mostly under water. Some of these are clastic rocks which consist of clasts which are minerals of different kinds. You can find them you can find these near river edges and sea shores were the sedioments wash up. Some examples are sandstone, breccia and shale.
They are broken down rocks from weathering and erosion. 3 types clastic organic chemical. Examples are limestone, sandstone, gypsum. we find them where erosion happened, like near the shore.
@Jennifer Peters I didn't know that there are more than one type of sedimentary rock either. I thought with all our notes they all form the same and cool the same. That they didn't have different groups. THat is a very intersting fact that I will put to us in my notes.
wow there was alot of reading but i found the right answers, well at least i hope i did...... well one type of sedimentary rock is quartz, some exsamples of sedimentary rocks are like mud, sand, clay and dravel. the places you can find them are at rivers, seas, oceans, typical water areas.
Sedimentary rock are formed when river wash parts of rocks down into a river basin. while most of these rocks are formed under water some are formed on land. but it more likely that you'll find them forming undder water.
sedimentary rocks can be found on the earths surface although they are usually made under water. one example of sedimentary rock is limestone, another example is sandstone.i learned therer are plenty of different types of sedimentary rocks.

Sedimentary rocks are mostly born then cool on the surface of the earth. There are lots of types of sedimentary rocks. Some made of mud or some made of sand.They can be found underwater. I learned that sandstone is sedimentary.
@ Jennifer Peters
I used to think that there was only one type of sedimentary rock to. But then we learned there was more than one.
Sedimentry rocks come from the Earth's surface mostly under water.
EX: limestone. Limestone is created in the ocean.
@Natalie
What are some types of sedimentary rocks?
@ Zach "Hillshire" Viox
I didn't know that either. I always thought it meant grown from the ground.
Sedimentary rocks our formed under intense pressure there for are usually found under water [or were water used to be]. There is Clastic, Chemical and Organic.
Organic sedimentary rocks our formed from dead use to be living things. Plankton etc. that is smashed intill it is a rock.
@ Andie
Some types are sandstone, shale and quartz.
@ monni szary i never knew quartz and clay could be sedimentary.
they come from granular materials like mud and sand. there are clastic, chemical, and organic types of sedimentary rock. some examples are limestone coal and gypsum. they are usally found under the ocean.
@ andrew ehrman
if they are usally found under the ocean why are so many on the surface? if you know please tell me.
sedimentary rocks-
They are born cool and are found mostly underwater. they mostly consist of a material called strata.
there are 3 types of sedimentary rocks clastic Sedimentary rocks, Chemical Sedimenantary rocks and Organic Sedimentary rocks. examples are-
Chemical- gymsp which is formed by calcite.
Organic- limestone which is carbonate
clastic- Sandstone in sand sediament.
Sedimentary are very intresting.
Anthony,Erb
Sedimentary rocks are the second great rock class.rocks are born to be cool some types of these are clastic rocks sedimentry rock is sandstone
Sedimentary rocks are the second great rock class.sedimentary rocks are born cool at the Earth's surface, mostly under water.
Clastic Sedimentary Rocks:
The most common set of sedimentary rocks consist of the granular materials that occur in sediment: mud and sand and gravel and clay.
Organic Sedimentary Rocks:
Another type of sediment actually forms in the sea as microscopic organisms — plankton — build shells out of dissolved calcium carbonate or silica.
@ anthony,
i agree with what you say about the sedimentary rock and that strata word is a llittle weird to say ha. it sounds very weird to me.
sedimentary rocks start cool and they are on the earths surface but they are manely under water thes are somtimes calstic rocks and and an example of this is sand stone.
They are the second class. And they are born cool usally in the ocean. They are made of layers of diffrent types of rocks. There many types of sedimentary rock. Sience they are made of diffrent subtances. You could find One in your back yard.

@jennifer thats cool like all the info u put in nice job
@ Dacoda
I had no clue of that I didn't even know that there was rock named that is cool.
the different types of sedimentary rocks are-clastic,organic,and chemical.
clastic-consists of mud,sand,gravel and clay
they are made by the physical breakdown and chemical alteration of rocks.As the sediments are steadily buried over geologic time, they get packed together under pressure and low heat, not much more than 100°C.
organic- organic rocks are forms in the sea as plankton. plankton build shells out of dissolved calcium carbonate or silica.
@ jenifer thats cool that quartz and clay are sedimentary rocks
Sedimentary rocks usually come from wet areas, such as oceans, rivers, lakes, seas, etc. Some types are clastic sedimentary rocks, organic, and chemical sedimentary rocks. Some examples are limestone, silica, sandstone, and breccia. We find sedimentary rocks around oceans, seas, lakes, rivers, etc. I didn't learn much else here.
But what I want to know is How are these rocks made in the ocean? I ponder that a lot in this unite. I can understand that rock are made under water but how and it be compacted together?!?!
@viox
i didnt know organic meant that either. i always thought it ment just coming natrually from the earth.
@ jayden thorp
in didnt know that they were 2nd class rocks until i read this expert on rocks
Sedimentary rocks are born on the earths surface, but modtly underwater. Types of these are clastic, organic, and chemical. An example of clastic is quartz. An example of organic is limestone. An example of chemical is gypsum.
They come from water,soil,and mud.
there are crystal,and silver,and gold.
josh parsons-The sedimentary rocks forms cool and under water.clastic is first type and can be found anywhere. organic type can be found where there are oceans. chemical is last type and can be found in seas that have isolated and dried up large areas of the sea.
they come from the water.there are calistic and organic and cheimical sedimentry rocks.qarts is found of waches
@ Jennifer Peters
Yeah i didnt see that but that is cool that quartz and clay is one hmm diffrent.
@Andrew Ehrman
Oh I forgot to add this to my post, your's reminded me!
Sedimentary rocks come mostly underwater, but some cool on the earths surface. the types of sedmentary rocks are:
*Clastic.
*Chemical.
*Organic.
some examples are:
*Limestopne.
*Bauxite.
*Dolostone.
You can find them sand in mud. by the deltas.
@Peters Jennifer
I also thought that there was only 1 type of sedimentary rock. It is cool to learn that they are different types all made different ways!
josh parsons- I agree that the sedimentary are interesting and i look forward to learn more about rocks.
sedimentary rock has layers.sedimentary rocks are born cool and on the earth surface. they come in different color.
@kaylee
nice comment
@Peters, Jennifer
Yeah i know i only thought there was one type for each rock.(sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic)
Sedimentary rocks mostly are formed underwater.
The types are Clastic, Organic and Chemical.
Some examples are calcite, limestone and gypsum.
Clastic sedimentary rocks are the most popular.
@Jayden
That's what I am curious about too. I imagine rocks being made from hot lava from volcanoes and such, not under the ocean.
they are the second great rock class, also called strata rocks. there are 3 types of strata rocks...
Clastic-the most common,usually consisted with surface minerals
Organic-made of plankton shells,dead plant materials,and could become coal
Chemical-the result of dried up sea sections where the minerals mass together to create stones
sedimentary rock is usually developed underwater
i thought sedimentary rocks were developed every where because you can find them any where but now i remember that all off this used to be water
@ Jennifer
yeah i didn't think the sedimentary has different classes i thought sedimentary were just rock developed in any type of sediment.
@Dupont,Noah
Which rock do you think is more interesting? I think chemical is because the rock comes from the water it self.
ANDREW reis
sedimentary rocks are made cool and mostly found in clay and on the earths surface but mostly found under water.
sedimentary rocks mostly found under water and or found on the top surface of the earth. one type limestone, carbonate, and sand.
@Alyssa and kyle. Are you sure there are 3 types of sedimentary rocks I thought that there was 2 and they where Clastic and Nonclastic.
ANDREW reis
ZACH viox i didn't no that sedimentary rocks are born in the earths surface. that is interesting.
@Jennifer Peters
I didn't know that there are more than one type of sedimentary rock either. I thought with all our notes they all form the same and cool the same. That they didn't have different groups. THat is a very intersting fact that I will put to us in my notes.
wow there was alot of reading but i found the right answers, well at least i hope i did...... well one type of sedimentary rock is quartz, some exsamples of sedimentary rocks are like mud, sand, clay and dravel. the places you can find them are at rivers, seas, oceans, typical water areas.
another place they might be found is water parks lol im just kidding but it might there ill look this summer if i remimber
The sedimentary rocks are from the earth's surface. The types of sedimentary rocks are Clastic Sedimentary Rocks, Organic Sedimentary Rocks, and Chemical Sedimentary Rocks. Some of sedimentary rocks are a red chert, shale, limestone, and sandstone. Most of the sedimentary rocks are found undre water.
Michael Twilling
Sedimentary rocks are formed by layers being piled on each other
Michael Twilling
@David Reddington I did not know clastic rocks were the most common
they re born cool, on the earths surface, but mostly in water. two types are clastic sedimentary, and organic, some exsamples of them are organic deimentary, limestone and gypsum.
wow when i read both sedimentary and igneous rock blogs, i didnt realize how different they are
Sedimentart rocks are born cool on the earths surface and underwater.One example is sandstone which comes from the sediment of sand.There isn not just 1 type of sedimentary.lyndsey roberto
sedimentary rocks are born cool at the Earth's surface. The types are Limestone,Chert,conglomerate. And include shells. Plankton is another type of Sedimentary
@Sanzere,Anna I love sandstone to.there just Amazing the way it is stoned sand.
