I think it's amazing how the Greeks thought, I mean, if we were in that situation today, we would probably name it something rather predictable such as rival or ROM(Rival Of Mars) or we may not have even thought of this rivalry at all it seems the Greeks had more creativity than us!!

I do feel like I notice the moon more now I use to never look at it, but now I record the moon down in our moon log every night and I did see the cresent last night it was very pretty. One thing I found out is the Antares I have never heard of this mabey I will go try to find it tonight.

@ Courtney Your right the Greeks were very creative if we named it and didn't name it ROM or rival we'd probably have some long scientific name no one can pronounce let alone spell.

The Greeks lodt that battle! The article saidv the Star was dominating Mars. Mars is a space partic;le compared to the Stars light. The Persains had a LARGER army, not smaller.

It's interesting to know that some stars come out after others i used to think that all the stars would come out just when it got dark or that they were even out during daytime and you just coiuldn't see them because it was bright out? Anyways i have never even heard of the antares planet we hear about mars all the time but never antares i would like to learn more about this planet and actually see it! (:

Wow, that was really cool. I can't wait to see it tonight. I had no idea about Antares or that Mars was named after the Ares, the god of war, because of its color. I can see what the planets names represent now.

That's cool! I wonder how the star developed the same color as Mars and how Mars developed the same color as the star. It is also very interesting how the moon is right between them.
I think it would be really neat to see the planets in one night. I knew Mars was a "red" planet but I didn't know it was named after a Greek god. I think it is neat that the star is an orange color.

I have never heard of a star being bigger than a planet either. I wonder how all that works, like I know that stars are just like big balls of gas and Mars is a big ball of rock, but I wonder how large they relly are.
I didnt know the plaet mars was named after the god of war,ares(i read about him in percy jackson.)

i do notice the moon more last night it was big crecent but y was it like yellow brown color instead of white.
I have also noticed the moon a lot more. I feel more aware of the sun, moon and stars and I understand it all more now.

I agree with you. It is not often that you get to see a planet. I wish I could come to house and look through your telescope and see the planets. Of course, I can't see, so that would be impossible.
I think its cool because other suns and planets are actually stars in the night sky. I have noticed the moon every night since about 5 years ago because every night in the summer we talk about how big the moon looks or how cool it looks.

I did se the moon last night the cresent was really thin. You could also still see the dark part of the moon in the night sky just barely. The next time I look at the nig sky i will look far mars and antares.
Fun Fact: Antares is so far away that the light you see from it came from it over 1500 years ago since it is over 1500 light years away.
yes i do notice the moon more often. when it is not full you can vaguely see the outline of the non-lighted up side.

Why are they all named after gods? I have never seen Mars, or the Antares. I would want to though. I also wonder how the rivalry is up in space. I wasn't out much at all last night because I felt quite sick. I would have if I had known about this. I always seem to miss them! I always look at the moon the following night and see nothing special. I'll look up tonight. Also I never knew of Antares. I don't really look at the moon much more than I did before, I always looked up at it before. I'm always interested in seeing some phenomenoms-I hope thats how to spell it- from space.

That is exactly what I was thinking. I think its just cause of their color. Which I personally find to be quite weird. I mean look at Pluto-it isn't a planet but still-, same color as Uranus and they aren't rivals. Then again Antares means Rival of Mars. So it does make sense in that way of thinking.

I do actually think that i am looking at the moon more offtened than i have ever looked at it before. Everytime i get home at night i would get out of the car and look into the sky with my little niece and me and her sometimes just sit outside and look up into the sky and look at the moon and the stars and we just sit their and talk to eachother. It is actually very fun to do....
