Nobel Prize: Physics

The Nobel Prize for Physics was released Tuesday, October 5, 2010.
Read the following link:

Nobel Prize

Do you ever try simple experiments around your house with things you have found?
How many of you have heard about putting a mentos candy in a two liter of pop and watching the geyser that will occur?
How many of you have tried experiments like this at you house?
Did you learn anything new from experiments you have done on your own?

Imagine taking that creativity many steps further as an adult and creating something that would win you the Nobel Prize.  How would you feel?

Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov used a block of carbon and some Scotch tape to create graphene, a new material with extraordinary properties.

Wow Manchester is also in Indiana and I live there! So even though this was in Britain that would still be quite the honor! That would be quite the amazing moment in your life!

Winning a noble prize sounds like hard work and very confusing! I wonder what they will come up with next year?

Moehring,DeeAnna said...

i could barely hear the people talking in the video but i think so cool that they won the nobel prize its seems very hard to do! i think they are from UK to:)!

@jill stange
so they used a block of carbon and scotch tape to create.... graphene??? thats so cool!i think its cool they only did that with 2 items!

Well congragulations to Andre Geim And Konstantien Novoselov on the creation of graphene

@ ally

if they came up with this now, what will they come up with 40 years from now????

It sound very hard work to get a noble prize but the hard woerk you would put in to it, it will surely pay off later but in the mean time they have to work hard

I haven't done many experiments at home. I think that if you work on experiments it must be your life goal. I like Earth Science better than Physics so I probably would not do many experiments at home. I would like to try some though. If I won the Nobel Prize, I would be the happiest person in the world. My family would be happy also.

I havent tried the mentos and pop experiment, but I have seen it being done before. And its really cool and looks fun!(: i want to try it someday

@ Sara
Why would you let it explode all over your little brother!!?! Gees Sara! lol(:

haha, well it was so fast all of a sudden he was attacked by soda(:
but really its cool, and wouldnt that be amazing if you won the nobel prize

its pretty cool the mentos thing. I have done that before but instead we added bottle rockets and sparklers and it was sweet.

I have done the mentos thing with Caleb, Cody and my other cousin. It sprayed all over us. It was awesome

@Andie, haha yea also if you go into a dark room and chew ob those hard mint mentos they spark inside your mouth its really cool wouldnt it be the best feeling to know you made a great scientic discovery??

@lamping ally i am also wondering what they are going to do next yaer.but it might be harder to win.

2.I have heard of that but i have never actually really done it before.

I think that it is like hard and alot of work to do to get the nobel prize.. but at the same time it is kind of awesome to get a nobel prize. i would like that to happen

@Ally.
I think it would be pretty harrd but cool to win a nobel prize.(: i could never do it.

it would be very hard to win a noble prize but it would be an honor.

Thats quite cool. A new awesome material. With all those great features, I mean great conductor, somewhat transparent, strong as steel. Thats great! Only made with Scotch tape and carbon! To me that is amazing.
Also the levitating a frog with gravitational fields or whatever is quite funny, even though I have no clue what exactly it is.

I tried expirements around my house before, they really didnt go well, I did vinigear and baking soda expirement and well it was succesful then my brither spilled it.

I have accutually put 2 packs of mentos into a diet coke. It went flying! I hit my fence and made a dent.

If I won the nobel prze i would be amazed. I winder what I would create. It would be a great honor.

cirkovic, daniel said...

@Dupont, Noah

That is awesome I agree. Imagine what products they could make with that. Maybe a toy for kids or something that will help the whole world!

@lamping ally
that does sound like a lot of work
but you know if u really want it go for it.

dacoda said...

yes i have tryed a 2 liter of pop with mentos it is really cool when it explodes.

Thorp,Jayden said...

that is so cool i thought u had to be out of collage to get the noble prize.

Thorp,Jayden said...

I wonder how old the guy wasi think he looked he was in his 30's.

Sydney,Vest said...

yes! i love doing the mento and a 2 litter!! another experiment i found accidently was if u take a piece of old chalk and drop it into a small bowl of water the chalk starts to bubble. its pretty cool to see both of those experiments happen. winning a nobel prize?? what no way!! thats soo cool. This shows little fun experiments can take u a long way!

@Heidi
yea i know! you would have to do something pretty amazing, but that must be the best feeling in the world to know you made an advance in science.

Winning a nobel prize does sound liie a lot of hard work! I wonder what it feels like to win one, it must be such an honor!

Sturwold, Kaylee said...

that would be soo cool to win a noble prize you would have to do something really big to win you cant just give them something dumb or you wont win and they look somewhat young to win a noble prize

Sturwold, Kaylee said...

@ally i wonder that to it will probly be sonmething that will be a huge deal because they have to be really smart to win a noble prize and they look young to win one but they will have something really cool next year if they win do you think they will ?

Alana Gulley
I agree with lauren if they came up with that now what will they come up with within 40 years im excited to figure out more about this!!!!!(:

I cant belelei that two young men won the nobell prize. And they were the youngest people to win the nobel prize.

I havent tried the mentos in a two liter. It sounds really cool though.
