Holiday Earthquake

Did you feel the earthquake Thursday, December 30?  How is it that we could have an earthquake in the midwest?  Where was its epicenter?  What was the magnitude?  What would if be like if we had and earthquake here in Cincinnati?  When was the last time we had one in Cincinnati?

No i did not feel the earthquake, my friend did.
We could get vibrations from another state that had an earthquaake
The Magnitude is 3.8
It probably wouldnt be bad just because we are in the mid-west.
We had a little one last year if my calculations are correct.

Lamping Ally said...

No i didnt feel the earthquake.
The magnitude was 3.8 in Indiana.
It probably wouldnt be as bad since the mid west doesnt get many high magnitude earthquakes.
If i remember right, the last earthquake we had was was last summer in cincinnati.

Mauricio,Courtney said...

NOPE NOT AT ALL!!

i dont know

East of Kokomo and 57 miles from Indianapolis.

The magnitude was about 3.8

It would probably be kinda small and maybe not very noticable.

The last time we had an earthquake in Cincinnati was it think 1987

@ Dee C:
Yeah I remember having A earthquake last year so yeah your calculations...haha...were correct!

Moehring,DeeAnna said...

@ALLY LAMPING
ID DIDNT FEEL THE EARTHQUAK EITHER !

@ DeeAnna
Really?? Your friend felt the earthquake did she tell you what it felt like???????

I did not feel the earthquake. Maybe there is more fault lines than scientists know about, that's a potential reason for an earthquake in the midwest. Indianapolis was its epicenter. If we had an earthquake in Cincinnati it would probably be a small earthquake. I don't know the last time Cincinnati had an earthquake.

Peters,Jennifer said...

No I did not feel the earthquake we had. We could have an earthquake in the midwest if we had more fault lines in the area. It's epicenter was located in Indianapolis. The magnitude was 3.8. If we had an earthquake in CIncinnati it would be a small one considering we had an earthquake or felt an earthquake on December 30th.It was so light I didn't even feel it. The last time we had anearthquake in Cincinnati, I do not know the answer to this.

Savard, Samantha said...

No, I did not feel the earthquake Thursday, December 30. The epicenter is in Indeanapollis. The magmatude is 3.8. IF we had an actual earthquake in Cin. then everybody would be scared considering it hasn't happened in a long time. The last time cincinnati had an earthquake is I think we had felt an earthquake last year sometime.

Peters,Jennifer said...

@DeeAnna
Wait we did have an earthquake? I thought that was just the aftershock from somewhere else, not actually in Cincinnati.

LaGrangeBonnie said...

@ Jenn I thought so too that it was an aftershock, but I'm not sure!

Henson,Megan said...

No, I did not feel the earthquake.
We could get vibrations from another state that had an earthquake.
The epicenter was centered just east of Kokomo, Ind., about 57 miles north of Indianapolis.
The magnitude was 3.8.

The last time we had an earthquake was last year.

no i didnt because i was in cleveland
we can have earthquakes in the midwest because of the fault line in Indiana
its epiccenter is 50 miles north of indanopolis
magitude: 3.8
we would get the whole feel of the magitude
about 20 years ago

Savard, Samantha said...

@Bonnie
No I did not know that fault lines cause more volcanoes I would like to look into that

There was an earthquake??? i didnt even feel it. it said the magnetude was 3.8. i do remember the last earth quake we had though i thhik it was last year. i think it probably wouldnt have been very bad because we dont have many tall buildings to fall and we live in the middle.

bekah said...

No i didnt feel the earthquake. we can have earthquakes in the midwest because one of the most dangerous fault zones is in the midwest. the epicenter was in indianapolis.the magnitude was 3.8.
if we had a earthquake in cincinnati it would be becuase of the fault lines in the midwest.
the last time we had a earthquake in cincinnati was last summer.

Alana Gulley said...

No I didnt feel the earthquake. Did you,?
We could maybe feel an earthquake that is in a near by state such as Indiana,or Kentuckey.
The magnitude was 3.8
It probably wasnt as bad because it was in the mid west

i ahve never been in a eartyhquake, but i think it would be cool yet exciting... i wish that i could have felt it.

Smith,Courtney said...

I did not feel the earth quake on december 30th. The reason that we could have an earthquake in the midwest by having more fualt lines. The magmatude was 3.8.If we were to have an earthquake in cincinnati it i would suppose it to be small.I dont remeber when the last earthquake in cincinnati.

Riley, Olivia said...

yes i did feel the earthquake that occured on dec. 30. the magnitude was 3.8, a decent sized quake. if we had a major earthquake here in cincinnati we would not be happy campers, there might even be destruction of buildings and homes.

I didnt feel the earth quake . At first i was very worried because many of my family members live out there but not much damage has beeen observed. The magnitude waas 3.8 stringest they ever recorded out there. The last year quake was last yeAR but it was very little. it happened in the middle of the night most people didnt even wake up.

Tchase said...

I didnt feel the earthquake what so ever!!!): I wish i did it wouldve been cool. The magnitude was 3.8 . It probably wouldnt of been bad because the mid-west doesnt have high magnitude for earthquakes. If we had a earthquake in cincinnati alotta buildings would fall....i dont the last time we had an earthquake in cincinnati...last summer i think....?

Anonymous said...

I did not feel the earthquake, actually, this is the first time I have heard of it.
We could get vibrations from that earthquake if it was close enough.
The Magnitude was 3.8
An earthquake in Cincinnati would probably not be devastating because we are in the mid west and earthquakes are not as likley or effective.
The last time there was in earthquake in Cincinnati was last summer._Sara Voigt

ANDREW reis,
no i didnt feel the earth quake on thurs day. the earth quake was caused by sharpivllie magneitc. its epicenter is indiana. the magnitude was 0.5. if we had a earthquake in cincinnati it would be bad because alot of people live here. last earth quake happen in 2008.

i did not feel the earthquake that morning. we probobly got vibrations from another state. megnitude is 3.8 . it would maybe be bad here. the last earthquake was last year.

No i did not feel the earthquake on december. mybe we had one because of the weather. i think that if we had a earthquake it would be bad for alot of people and for cincinnati

no i did not feel the earthguake last year on Thursday, December 30 but...The US Geological Survey reported a 3.8-magnitude earthquake, centered just east of Kokomo, Ind., about 57 miles north of Indianapolis...The earthquake occurred about 3 miles undergroundand could be felt as far south as Indianapolis, as far east as Dayton, Ohio and as far northwest as Elgin, Ill., about 40 miles outside Chicago.

How could we have an earthquake here? Why would there be an earthquake here in the midwest. When was the last earthquake in cincinnati. Was there ever earthquakes here?

Thorp,Jayden said...

What is the magnitude why do we need it. what is the epicenter what is it and why do we need it?!?!?

Thorp,Jayden said...

@ Ally Lamping
Yeah I didn't feel the earthquake at all was it early in the morning and we were still asleep or was it later that day??

Thorp,Jayden said...

I don't think any of us felt it cause it was probaly early in the morning.

@ jacob i think the last time we had an earthquake in cincinati was last year

No i didn't feel the earthquake. We can get a earthquake in the midwest by feeling earth made in the New Madrid fault line. the magitude was 3.8. It would be a small earthquake in Cincinnati. Last time we had a earthquake was last year.

No i didnt feel the earthquake. We could have a earthquake in the midwest becaues the vibration of other states. The magnitude was 3.8

Did your friend feel a large or a small part of the earthquake. She most have been scared.

No i didn't feel the earthquake on Thursday,December 30. There could me an earthquake if we had more Fault Lines in the Midwest. The Epicenter is 50 Miles notrth of indiana. The magnitude was 3.8. It we be normal as long as it wasn't a big one. We had a mini one a couple months ago i think.

i didnt feel the earthquake on december 30 let alone i didnt know there was one. i have no idea how we could have an eartquake in the midwest.the maganitude is 3.8. i dont know how we could have an earthquake. if i remember right the last time we had a eartquake was when i was in 4th grade

1. No
2. We could feel the vibrations or movements of the earth quake because of how close we are to the midwest.
3. East of Kokomo, Indiana.
4. 3.8
5. It would actually probably bad just from my thoughts.
6. 175 years ago in northern indiana.

I didn't feel the earthquake on December 30.
We could have an earthquake in the midwest because maybe we have fault lines.
The epicenter was Indianapolis.
The magnitude was 3.8.
If we had an earthquake in Cincinnati it would probably have an even smaller magnitude than 3.8
The last time we had one in Cincinnati, well we felt one last year but that might have just been an aftershock.

Reis, Elizabeth said...

@Kelsey
yeah I didnt even know there even was one either

Anonymous said...

well myself i did not feel the earthquake but my parents were saying something about it. we could have earthquakes in the mid west because of the fault lines. the epic center is Indianapolis. the magnitude is 3.8 i am pretty sure that we had one last year but i am not sure???

i agree with almost everyone because no one even felt it we only really heard it down from family or friends or just now felt it!!

not awful cause we r in the midwest.

No, I didn't! i Kinda wish i did feel it. The magmnitude is 3.8 in Indiana. It probably would.nt be all that bad really since we have not had a volcano eruption happen in the US. I think it was last summer last year.

Anonymous said...

i did not feel the volcanoe but if i did i think that it would be so cool because i have never felt a volcanoe before and i want to so much but i don't know when the next one is goimg to happen
