Well it's easy to tell that there is ground water, (hense the gysers)
but i have no idea how the watter heats up or shoots out of the ground to an extreme. maybe there is a magma chamber that is heating the water up and then pressuring it to come up, under yellowstone.
I think i would like to look more into that.
In the movie it said that there was a huge chamber (I can't put my finger on the name at this moment, something like a cala-something)
shaped like a caldron that held lots of magma that was under yellowstone. In the video it said that they could fit the whole city of tokyo in there + some! so that would deffinatly be a huge problem!

This all eventually relates back to plate tectonics. When Plate Tectonics cause earthquakes to set of a chain reaction of events, for example...

If there was a super volcano in the USA the whole world would be devistated. There would be cut offs of major trade routs, political allies, we would have to depend on other countries ( more than we do now!!!!) to get us back up... and I have a big feeling that most aren't going to want to put up with us, even though about 90% of our population would be inialated!
All and all, i thought the video was pretty cool. I was actually on the edge of my seat most of the time, but I enjoyed how they used the element of suprise! :)

Under Yellowstone is a large volcano. Yellowstone isn't the only super. Mt. St. Helena and Mount Vesuvius had super eruptions in the past. A VIE is describing the size of a volcano, a VIE 8 is a super volcano. All this has to do with plate tectonics because plate tectonics are what make volcanoes erupt because the pieces of the crust have rose up and so the bottom of the volcano or mountain is connected to the mantle and it erupts. The US would be affected in many ways. It would depend on where this super volcano occured how severe the affects would be. If it were at Yellowstone like the video we watched suggests many people would be trapped without food and water, people wouldn't be able to exit the country, many near Yellowstone would be killed, many would be injured, stores would close, and everything would be out of control. I thought the video was very interesting, but it was also scary because if something like this were to happen I don't think we'd be as prepared as we should be.

I would imagine it to be just like the movie.Ash clouds would cover the U.S blocking the sun for a long time which would kill our plants,and Kill 100 hundreds of people located by the volcanoe and people breathing in the ash making a concrete in their lungs.

As far as I know, Yellow stone is the only super volcano, but im sure many more could be made, it would take time to build up the lava under ground for another super volcano to form.

When the plat techtonics move and cause earthquakes it can cause;
-tsunami(AKA an earthquake underwater)
-A canyon to form or change shape
-A magma chamber to rupture and cause an eruption AKA super eruption.
-Or a cone shaped volcano
I think the US would break into a paniced chaos casing many roads and facilities to shut down/close off, and the government would be paniced but would pretend to be calm and have things under control.
I like the video, I thought it was interesting but not your ordinary factual video, it had an amazing conflict and climax, it had lots of action and tense moments that made my heart race, I LOVED IT!!!

This has to do with plate tectonics because when the two plates cross and create friction between them it causes earthquakes and believe it or not volcano eruptions. So when the plates hit the earth shook and the volcano erupted causing the super eruption.
The US would be having problems. Since we have such a largely populated state and cities, if we had a super eruption, I'm sorry to say not all of us would make it out safely. A super eruption would also make everyone focus on it, making the government stop working on whatever we were working on. US would go into total chaos and no one, not even the police would be able to stop people. If it got really extreme then some parts of the US could be buried under layers of molten rock and ash.
I thought this video was very interesting because it opens our eyes to what could happen. I also liked all the facts the video gave us about the volcano under Yellow Stone. Even though this could never happen, it is very interesting to think about. Just not too much thought because that's scary!

A VIE 8 means a super volcanoe eruption. Under Yellow Stone, there is Cualdera, filled with magma, and it is 125 km large. When that erupts, pressure builds up, forming a vent(channel)and the magma flows up the vent, connecting to the volcanoe and then it erupts. Then the volcanoe erupts untill the cauldera is empty.

A VIE 8eruption would hav 600 cubic miles of debris. Most of the world's active volcanoes are located along or near the boundaries between shifting plates and are called "plate-boundary" volcanoes. I think that many people would die and be without houses if there were a super eruption. Overall it would be a very tragic situation. I thought the video was pretty cool. One of the world's largest volcanoes is under Yellow Stone. No it is not because I beleive that Mount Visoovius was a Super volcano and still is. I can't remember what a VIE 8 is. When two plates touch there could be an eruption. Everry person in the United States would be in danger and I believe it would be similar to the affects on the video. I thought the video was incredible and it was varry suspenseful when the volcano erupted.
i've been reading alot of post that said that yellow stone is the only super volcanoe if u went to the link and read page 3 of whats under yellowstone u would see that there was an other super volcano in Toba, Indonesia that was a VEI 7 eruptin

A large magma chamber is under Yellow Stone. No it's not the only super volcano. A VIE 8 is a measure of volcanic eruption which means there is a super eruption. Plate Tectonics created eruptions that trigger the volcanic eruption and create magma. The US would be majorly efected if the volcano erupted. Millions of people would die and it would take a long time to recover. I liked the video. It was very interesting.

Under Yellowstone is a large volcano. Yellowstone isn't the only super. Mt. St. Helena and Mount Vesuvius had super eruptions in the past. A VIE is describing the size of a volcano, a VIE 8 is a super volcano. All this has to do with plate tectonics because plate tectonics are what make volcanoes erupt because the pieces of the crust have rose up and so the bottom of the volcano or mountain is connected to the mantle and it erupts. The US would be affected in many ways. It would depend on where this super volcano occured how severe the affects would be. If it were at Yellowstone like the video we watched suggests many people would be trapped without food and water, people wouldn't be able to exit the country, many near Yellowstone would be killed, many would be injured, stores would close, and everything would be out of control. I thought the video was very interesting, but it was also scary because if something like this were to happen I don't think we'd be as prepared as we should be.

It reminds me of what would happen if the moon had been knocked closer to the Earth. The video was cool at times, I just had trouble knowing what to write down as notes, because its hard to take notes during something that is basically a movie. Bill Nye isn't a movie, its more of an educational show, making it much easier to take notes during. They get to the point, while in movies, they don't, they stay vague.

As for the video I think it was really good and interesting. I didn't really care for the ending though, but overall I liked it.
I am now terrified of volcanos that movie was scary when is it going to happend in our lives in our kids lives our grandkids lives I think we should all go to mexico now.

I agree I was on the edge of my seat too. And I'm pretty sure they said that there is a magma chamber underneath Yellowstone. That's why the chain eruptions occured.

Yellow Stone park is on top of arguably the most active volcano in the world. VIE means Volcano Explosivity Index which is also a super eruption, so if it's a VIE 8 it is the highest on the scale which is the biggest type of eruption. This all relates with plate tectonics because the plates collide to create the earthquake, which causes the volcano eruptions. The U.S would be effected by it just by how the people in the movie was, there would be ash everywhere, people dying, and everybody paniced and tereified. I thought the video was great and was a little emotional because it made me think about what would happen in real life and what we would do.

I agree it would be cool if it took that long, and we should watch more, just as long as they're more entertaining.
I also agree with many other people that it wasnt great, but it wasn't the worst. If its more entertaining I would be fine, but this was flat out boring at times. Its hard to take notes and learn when you're bored or not into it!

Yellow Stone Park is in Wyoming. it sits ontop of one of the largest volcanoes on earth! It contains RED HOTT molten rock and has odd mud spots. Vie 8 is a super valcano and it helps judge how big the volcano is goiong to be. It has to do with plate tectonicts is it sets a chain reaction. The US WOULD BE GONE EVERYBODY WOULD DIE! I loved the video! i could watch it again.
i thought that the video was good and i like learning about that topic because there is alot to learn about volcanoe's like how high some are or hwo much lava is in some and so many other stuff so i love the video
