Florite=
Florite is relatively soft, number 4 on Mohs' scale of hardness. Pure florite is colorless, but a variety of impurities give fluorite a rainbow of different colors, including green, purple, blue, yellow, pink, brown, and black.
Flourite is normally used for hydrofluoric acid.

I learned Cadmium's atomic number
(48)and symbol.(Cd)It is very soft- you can cut it with a knife- and sivery and white. Its primary use is to produce nickel-cadmium, which is used in batteries and cellular devices. It is not reactive to acids.-NAMIE

Coal

I learned that coal is a very important source of energy.
The hardness of coal varies, the color are shades brown and black.
It is a huge source of electrical energy and a source of heat.
Coal provides 23% of all energy used/consumed.

*Diamonds*
My mineral is diamond. I learned that diamonds can only form at extremely high tempertaures and pressure.
How strong it is,luster,and shape.
Diamond is mostly used for jewelry,Industrial diamonds are used is drills and machinery.
The united states is the worlds largest consumer of diamonds. The name diamond comes from the greek word adamas which means invinciable.

I learned Helium is unharmful to living beings and that it is used to treat severe asthma and is mixed with oxygen for deep sea diving! Helium was first discovered on the sun, hence the name helium which is derived from the greek word Helios. There are no minerals bearing Helium and it is not reactive to any other element or iron! It is a small light gaseou material.

Nickel, with a symbol of Ni, is a silvery shiny, metallic element with an atomic number of 28.
Nickel is also important to the proper function of some enzymes in both plants and animals. Scientists who study seismic waves from earthquakes, have determined that the core of the Earth consists of a liquid outer core and a solid inner core composed of an iron-nickel mixture.

Diamonds are the hardest mineral on earth. The name diamond is a Greek word adamas which means invincible.Natural diamond has been discovered in 35 different countries. Some diamonds have been found in the United States. Colorado, has produced aa small amount of diamonds.
Its properties are its color is Colorless most of the time. Also it is very hard but smooth and has sharp edges. It is shiny when it is in light and it is Transparent.
It is used for cutting throught material. it is used as an abrasive and in cutting and grinding. Industrial diamonds are in large steel drill bits to drill into rock for wells to find water, oil, and natural gas. It is also important for drilling and cutting metal machine parts.

Schirmer,Brandon said...

Diamond:
Diamond is made of carbon. It's a 10 on Mohs' scale of hardness. The name diamond is a corruption of the Greek word adamas which means invincible. It was given in reference to diamond’s great hardness. Consequently, it is used as an abrasive and in cutting and grinding applications. Industrial diamonds are embedded in large steel drill bits to drill into rock for wells to find water, oil, and natural gas. It is also important in the manufacture of machinery for drilling and cutting metal machine parts.

Aluminum is used for packaging, transportation and building.
One interesting fact is other countries with major reserves have aluminum like Brazil, Jamica and India. Another interesting fact is Guinea and Australlia have about half of the world's reserves.

SILICON
Sources
Silicon is recovered from an abundant resource: sand. Most pure sand is quartz, silicon dioxide (SiO2). Since sand is plentiful, easy to mine and relatively easy to process, it is the primary ore source of silicon. Some silicon is also retrieved from two other silicate minerals, talc and mica. The metamorphic rock, quartzite, is another source (quartzite is metamorphosed sandstone). All combined, world resources of silicon are plentiful and will supply demand for many decades to come.

limestone-
there are alot of hydraulic, hydrated, quick and slake. Limestone is also and mostly associated with dolomite. It was used in 80 percent of construction in the 1900's and today it is 90 percent of chemical and industrial uses.
Uses- steel manufacturing, power plant smoke stacks, mining, paper and paper pulp production, water treatment and purification wastewater treatment.
Properties- soluble in acid and is composed of calcium carbonate.

Feldspar is the single most abundant mineral group on Earth. All together, the varieties of feldspar account for one half of the Earth’s crust. Feldspar is the mineral name given to a group of minerals distinguished by the presence of aluminum and the silica ion in their chemistry.

Can come in many colors, its opacke.

Feldspar is used to make dinnerware and bathroom and building tiles. In ceramics and glass production, feldspar is used as a material that lowers the melting temperature of another material.

Salt, composed of sodium chloride (NaCl), is one of the necessities of life for man and animals. Even in earliest times, man valued salt licks, springs, and marshes, and would go to great effort to visit them and carry salt away. In addition to the natural craving for salt which develops when it is absent from the diet, salt is valuable for preserving meats in hot climates.

Talc is the softest mineral. It is a 1 on the Mohs scale. Since it is so soft it can be cut or crushed easily, so it is commonly used as an ingredient in ceramics, paper, paint, roofing, plastics, cosmetics, talcum and baby powders, and a variety of other assorted uses such as making rubber and plastics. Before the days of furnaces, blocks of talc were heated on stoves and used as bed warmers.

the minerals in side of dianoms are formed from the element carbon, One is graphite which is one of the softest minerals on Earth. The other is diamond which is the hardest substance on Earth (10 on Mohs' hardness scale). The difference in hardness is due to the way the carbon atoms attach to one another. In diamond, they attach in a three-dimensional manner that mineralogists describe as a framework.
