Example of Sedimentary
Rock is Limestone. Limestone are rocks that are made from the mineral calcite which came from the beds of evaporated seas and lakes.

Example of Metamorphic Rock is Schist. Schict rocks can be formed from basalt, an igneous rock; shale, a sedimentary rock; or slate, a metamorphic rock.

Example of Igneouse Rock is Granite. Granite are igneous rocks which were formed by slowly cooling pockets of magma that were trapped beneath the earth's surface

Moehring,DeeAnna said...

For Sedimentary rock to form layer after layer of eroded earth has to be deposited on top of each. These layers are pressed down through time, until the bottom layers turns into rock. An example of sedimentary rock is limestone. Limestone is used in concrete.

For metamorphic rock to form the rocks are under tons of pressure, which causes heat build up, and this causes them to change. Metamorphic rocks are rocks that have morphed into another type of rock. Before the rocks morphed they were onece sedimentary or igneous. Schiast rock is a metamorphic rock and through heat and pressure, these rocks were formed into this new kind of rock.

Igneous rocks form as the lava cools above ground from an erupted volcano. When magma becomes trapped in small pockets the pockets of magma cool slowly underground, then the magma becomes igneous rocks. Granite is a type of igneous rock, Granite is used for monuments that will last for awhile and for decoration on buildings.

Sedimentary rock- forms from layers and klayers of eroded earth piling up over time. A type of this is limestone. Facts about this are it is made of calcite which came from evaporated seas, lakes, and sea animal shells. Good for building buildings.
igneous rock-formed above or underground. Underground magma gets trapped in small pockets and when it cools it becomes a rock. Above ground it is called magma and when it cools it becomes a rock. A rock of this type is scoria. Facts about it are it is made of lava and it actually a kind of glass.
metamorphic rock-formed by "morphing" from igneous rock or sedimentary rock. They change by undergoing heat and pressure. A type of this rock is gneiss. Facts about this are that it started as igneous and then changed when it experienced heat and pressure. You can see the patterns where it has changed and all the layers in which it was a sedimentary rock.

Sedimentary rocs are formed by wind, water, and ice eroding rocs away, and then carrying them to be deposited at a lake or a river delta. This process requires water and rocs. ex.-shale.
Metamorphic rocs are really just other rocs that undergo tons of heat and pressure and change into another roc. ex.-schist.
Igneous rocs are formed either from magma inside the earth or outside when tyhe magma coooool. it requires magma. ex.-pumice

Peters,Jennifer said...

@Anna
There are soo many rocks in the world, but I think it is most interesting how metamorphic rocks are formed because you can still see the patterns and properties of its first state!

Sedimentry rock is formed when layer after layer of eroded earth is deposited on top of on another. These layers are pressed down more and more through time, until the bottom layers slowly turn into rock. An example of this is shale. Shale is a type of sedimentary rock formed from clay that is compacted together by pressure.

Metamorfic rocks are created when sedimentary and igneous rocks are under tons and tons of pressure, which fosters heat build up, and this causes them to change. An example of this is gneiss. In the geiss rock you can see how the mineral grains in the rock were flattened through tremendous heat and pressure.

Underground, they are formed when the magma deep within the earth becomes trapped in small pockets. As these pockets cool slowly underground, the magma becomes igneous rocks. Igneous rocks are also formed when volcanoes erupt, causing the magma to rise above the earth's surface. Igneous rocks are formed as the lava cools above ground. An example of this is scoria. Scoria is actually a kind of glass and not a mixture of minerals.

Igneous is made by melteds rock that cools. An example is granite, granite is used in monuments and makes a very pretty counter top! (:

Sedimentary- Little pieces of earth that had been eroded. Little pieces have been washed down into lakes, river, and oceans. There they settle at the bottom. Layers and layers are are depoisted on top of it. After awhile layers are pressed down and and become sedimentary rocks.
Limestone- Limestone rocks are sedimaentary rocks made from mineral calcite that came from the bottom of seas, lakes, and sea animal shells.
Metamorphic- These rocks form into new rocks. They were once igneous or sedimentary rocks. These rocks are formed under tons and tons of pressure, which heat builds up and this causes it to change.
Gneiss- These rocks may have been granite. Granite is an igneous rock but heat and presure change it.
Igneous- They are fromed underground by melted rocks called magma deep inside the earth. It becomes trapped. Igneous rocks are formed when volcanos erupt causing magma to rise up to the surface. When magma appears its called lava. The lava cools and and forms igneous rocks.
Granite- Granite rocks are formed slowly by the cooling of magma that was trapped beneath the earths surface.

Metamorphic rocks are morphed or changed. At one point they were sedimentary or igneous, but then were changed under heat or pressure. An example of metamorphic rock is gneiss, which may have been Granite, an igneous rock but was changed under heat and pressure. Sedimentary rocks are formed by rock fragments collect at the bottom of streams and the layers from together and become rock. Conglomerate rock is an example of metamorphic rock and is made up of small rocks and pebbles.Igneous rocks are formed when volcanoes erupt or in magma chambers deep inside the earth. lava and magma froms together and when it cools it forms igneous rocks. Obsidian rocks form when lava cools quickly above the earth's surface and it is actually glass, not minerals mixed together. It has sharp edges and is an example of igneous rocks.

sediment- broekn pieces tht have settled on the bottom of river streams or oceans is pressured by layers that cover each over time. the layers continue to bear this pressure until the bottom layers are compressed into rock.

metamorphic- tons and tons of pressure are applied to lets say an igneous rock, forcing heat to build up, which causes the igneas rock to change to metamorphic. the only types of rock that can change ar igneous, or sedimentary.

All that is needed to form a rock is pressure, heat and time. Sedimentary rock is pressure and time. Metamorphic rock is made by heat and igneous rock is made by heat and time.
Igneous - granite : this is made by heat under the surface of the earth and is used in long lasting features.
Metamorphic - gneiss : This was the granite igneous rock and with heat and pressure it changed.
Sedimentary - limestone : This is calcite made from evaporated floor beds from lake and sea.

Obsidian is an igneus rock that is formed when lavaa cools above ground. This is a glass formed by minerals.

Alana Gulley said...

Sedimentary rocks are rocks that get eroded by wind or water, eroded means to get broken down into little pieces.
Now about metamorphic rocks metamorphic rocks are rocks that become morphed, like if a igneous rock, or sedimentary rock are under ground for a long time, and they are under pressure, they will morph or turn into a different type of rock called metamorphic.
Now about igneous rock. gneous rocks are rocks that are formed by cooled magma that forms under ground. Also igneous rocks are rocks that form when a volcanoe erupts.!(:

schist- Schist rocks are metamorphic. These rocks can be formed from basalt, an igneous rock. shale, a sedimentary rock, or slate, a metamorphic rock. Through a lot of heat and pressure, these rocks were transformed into this rock.

Sedimentary rocks-
EX. limestone
Sedimentary rocks are formed by pieces of earth eroding. The little pieces of earth are carried down streams where they settle at the bottoms of rivers, lakes, ocean etc. As layers of earth continue to be deposited ontop of one an other, the bottom layers slowly harden into rock. This cycle continues.

Metamorphic rock-
EX. schist
Metamorphic rocks are formed by rocks that were once sedimentary or igneous rocks are put under alot of pressure. This pressure causes heat and causes the rocks to change (morph)

Igneous rock-
EX. granite
Igneous rock is formed underground and above ground.

UNDERGROUND- when magma that is deep in the earth becomes trapped in small pockets, the magma cools. This causes igneous rocks.

ABOVE GROUND- when volcanoes erupt, magma comes out of the earth. This is called lava. The lava cools above ground and this causes igneous rocks.

Sedimentary -
Layer of layers of pieces of the earth are on top of each other and are pressed down enough they turn into rock. Ex:Gypsum- made up of sulfate mineral and fromed by evopaporating sea water in masive prehistoric basins.
Metamorphic-
Were once sedimentary and igneous rock. The rocks are under tons and tons of pressure and this causes them to change. Ex: Schist- can be formed from basalt, shale or slate. Heat and pressure frmo this rock
Igneous rock- Underground- melted rock is trapped in small pockets. AS they cool underground they become igneous rock. Aboveground- When a volcanoe erupts lava appers. Igneous rocks can be fromed when lava cools above ground
Ex: granite- formed by slowly cooling pockets of magma trapped beneath the earth.

An example of Sedimentary is Limestone. Limestones ar made out of a mineral called calcite. Calcite comes from evaporated sea and lakes. It also comes from sea animals shells. Lime stone can be used for concrete to build buildings and other things.

An example of Metamorphic rock is Gneiss. Gneiss used to be granite, which is an igenous rock but heat and pressure changed it.

An example of Igenous is Scoria. Scoria is made when lava cools quickly above ground.

Sedimintary rocks are formed when wind and water erode or worn away little pieces of our earth. an example of sedimentary rock is limestone, which comes from the mineral calcite, which comes from the beds of seas and lakes.
Metamorphic rocks are formed under heat and pressure. An example is gneiss, this rock was granite, that changed under heat and pressure.
Ingneous rocks are formed either above or below ground. An example is scoria rocks they are formed when lava cooled quickley above ground.

For these rocks to be formed...
Sedimentary-Eroded bits of other rocks have to fall on top of eachother in layers, get enough pressure.
Igneous-When magma cools the cooled magma becomes igneous rock.
Metamorphic-A igneous or sedimentary rock that changed under TONS of heat and pressure.

Examples:

Igneous-Happens to be my favorite rock, obsidian! It is sharp along the edges and really is dark glass and not a mixture of minerals. It is formed when magma cools fast.

Sedimentary-Limestone, it is made from the mineral calcite. It is excellent for building in humid regions.

Metamorphic-Gneiss, these rocks were most likely granite, which is an igneous rock, before they were changed by heat and pressure.

Calderon, Heidi said...

A Sedimentary rock could be a sandstone rock. They are made from small grains of minerals quartz feldspar.
A Metamorphic rock could be a Gneiss rock. In which these could have been granite and heat and pressure could change it.
A Igneous rock could be formed under ground or above ground. This rock could also be a pumice rock. These pumice rocks are formed when lava cooled quickly above ground, they could actually even float on water.

MooreKassidy said...

Sedimentary Rock-Peices of the earth have to break down and wash away to the top of older rock layers and then become and older rock layer which makes it sedimentary. One example is Limestone.Limestone is a sedimentary rock that is made from a mineral Calcite.
Metomorphic-In order for a rock to become metomorphic it once had to be a sedimentary or igneous rock that was one under pressure and eventually changed in metomorpic rock. One example is Gneiss. Gneiss used to be igneous but was under so much heated pressure it formed into metomorphic.
Igneous-Igneous rocks can be formed either above or below earths surface. If they were made below the surface then they were formed by melted rock. If they were formed above ground that means magma erupted from a volcanoe and if formed and above ground igneous rock. One example is Pumice. Pumice Rocks are formed when hot lave cools quikly above the earths surface.

For sedimentary rock to form, eroded pieces of earth are washed downstream. They layer on top of each other and press down. Eventually the bottom layers turn into rock.
For metamorphic rock to form, igneous or sedimentary rocks go under tons of pressure which builds up heat and 'morphs' them into metamorphic rocks.
Igneous rocks form above ground and underground. For above ground, when volanoes erupt, magma goes above the earth and then cools.
For underground, magma gets trapped in small pockets and then cools.
An example of a sedimentary rock is conglomerate rocks. They are made up of things like pebbles and sand. Pressure cannot hold the rock together by itself, because the rock is so large.
An example of a metamorphic rock is gneiss. Gneiss may have been granite at one point. Mineral grains in the rock are in alternating patterns.
An example of igneous rock is scoria rocks. They are formed when lava cooled quickly above ground and they are actually a kind of glass.

Sedimentary Rock: What is required for these rocks to form is different layers of rocks are piled on top of each other over the years. Thats how sedimentary rocks have different layers. An example of a sedimentary rock is limestone. Limestone is made from the minearl calcite which came from seas. Its a exccellent building material for humid regions.

Metamorphic: rocks that have "morphed" into a different rock. They used to be igneous or sedimentary rocks. They change because they are under a large amount of pressure. An example is
gniess. Gniess used to be granite which is igneous, but heaqt and pressure made it metamorphic.

Igneous: They can be formed above and below ground. They are formed when magma gets captured into small pockets and it eventually cools into hard solid rock. An example is Obsidian. They are fromed when lava cools quickly above ground. Obsidian is glass.

Sedementary
Layer after layer of eroded earth is deposited on top of eachother. These layers get pressed together more and more through time, until the bottom layers slowly turn into rock. An example of this rock is limestone. Limestone is used in concrete because it is great in humid conditions.

Metomorphic-
rocks that have changed into another kind of rock. These rocks were igneous or sedimentary rocks before they became metomorphic rocks. The rocks change becaus ethey undergo tons and tons of pressure, and very hot tempetures this causes them to change. An example of this kind of rock is the gneiss rock. the gneiss rock once might have been granite. Granite is an igneous rock, but the granite went through tons of pressure and high temps and became a gneiss rock.

Igneous-
These rocks can be formed either above ground or underground. It is formed underground when melted rock called magma is trapped insite a pocket called a magma pool. They are formed above ground when a volcano erupts and the magma cools above ground magma is now called lava. an example of an igneous rock is granite. granite is formed when small packets of underground magma that slowly cool. Granite is used for long lasting monuments, and decoration on/in buildings.

Sedimentry rocks are formed by eroded/broken down rocks and worn away by wind and water. These little bits of our earth are washed downstream where they settle to the bottom of the rivers, lakes, and oceans.

Metamorphic rocks are under tons and tons of pressure, which fosters heat build up, and this causes them to change.

Underground, they are formed when the melted rock, called magma, deep within the earth becomes trapped in small pockets. As these pockets of magma cool slowly underground, the magma becomes igneous rocks. Igneous rocks are also formed when volcanoes erupt, causing the magma to rise above the earth's surface. When magma appears above the earth, it is called lava. Igneous rocks are formed as the lava cools above ground.

An example of a Sedimentry rock is Shale. Shale rock is a type of sedimentary rock formed from clay that is compacted together by pressure. They are used to make bricks and other material that is fired in a kiln.

An example of a Metamorphic rock is Schist. Schist rocks are metamorphic. These rocks can be formed from basalt, an igneous rock; shale, a sedimentary rock; or slate, a metamorphic rock. Through tremendous heat and pressure, these rocks were transformed into this new kind of rock.

An example of a Igneous rock is Pumice. Pumice rocks are igneous rocks which were formed when lava cooled quickly above ground. You can see where little pockets of air had been. This rock is so light, that many pumice rocks will actually float in water. Pumice is actually a kind of glass and not a mixture of minerals. Because this rock is so light, it is used quite often as a decorative landscape stone. Ground to a powder, it is used as an abrasive in polish compounds and in Lava© soap.

Sedimentary Rock are Formed by little pieces of the earth have been broken down by wind or water.

Metamorphic rocks are a kind of rock that have mix into a difrent kind of rock. These rocks were a igneous or a sedimentary rock be for they would mix. The rocks are under a lot of pressure and makes it really hot this makes them be diffrent.

Igneous rocks are called fire rocks and are formed from above and underground ground. Igneous rocks are formed as the lava gets cold

John Dinger said...

ther is sedimentary. layer upon layer of sediment is deposited and pressed down on each other over time.example is limestone, which is made of calcite.

metamorpic is another type of rock that changes after it is exposed to extreme heat and pressure. schist is an example of a metamorphic rock

igneous rocks occur from cooled magma. an example is granite. it lasts a long time and is used for monuments.

@ jennifer peters

i agree. i think metamorphic are the coolest. how do they get re exposed to the intense heat and pressure though?

Bader, Lucas said...

ON the Sedimentary rocks it is neat to think how the wind an water can form rocks. Like Limestone some ofthese are formed at the bottom of oceans from sea animals shells. These rocks are used for buildings.
Metaphoric rocks change from the heat. The rocks are stacked on each other with alot of pressure and heat this changes the formation.
Igneous rocks are also fire rocks. The form underground, melted rocks or they can form above ground called manma rocks or lava from the cooling after a volcano.
