Rock Types, How are they formed

We will be looking at the 3 different types of rocks and how they are formed.  Check out the following link and watch 3 short video clips on what must happen to create each different type of rock.  Report what you find out.

I learned that metamorphic rocks start as sedimentary or igneous rocks an i thought that it started as a metamorphic rock.

I found out that Sedimentry rocks are formed when rocky fragments and sediments are deposited together by wind, water or ice, they gradually, over thousands or more years, cement together into the sedimentry.
Igneous rocks are formed when molten rock (magma) rises up from the earth's mantle.
Metamorphic rock are made from extreme heat, pressure can bake, squeeze or fold rocks into something new; the metamorphic rock.

I found out that Metamorphic rocks came from igneous, and sedimentary rocks by baking, squeezing, or folding.

I learned how all the riocks are formed. Sedimentary rcks are formed when rocky fragments form together with water wind or ice. Igneous rock is formed when a volcano erupts and Metamorphic rocks were igneous or sedimentary and then is reformed.

sedimentary rocks are formed when sediments are deposited together by wind, water and, ice they slowy over thousands of years become one rock.

igneous rocks are formed when magma rises up from earths surface and formes into a rock.

When sedemtary rocks and igneous rocks change dramaticaly by forces of the eath extrem heat that can squeeze or fold into a new rock called metamorphic rocks.

I learned that metamophic rocks come from igneouse rocks. But i thought that metamorphic rocks dont have to do with other rocks like igneouse or sedimentry. But i guess it does!!!

I learned that ignenous rocks are thrown from a volcanio during an eruption. Igneous is formed from magma hardned over time

@david Thats cool that you learned that metamorphic rocks start as sedimentry or igneous rock. But how would it start as a metamorphic rock?

Sedimentary rock: water, ice, and gravity are agents that form sedimentary rock at or near the earths surface. fossils can be found in sedimentary rock.

Metamorphic rock: A rock has been changed/morphed by heat, pressure, or chemical action over geological time.

Igneous rock: is formed when magma rises from the earths mantle.

@ Anna I know we learned about this at Dulles too and I thought that too, but morph means change,so metamorphis it like changes :)

I learned that all rocks are formed differently,
-Sedimentary rocks; are formed when rocky fragments form together with water, wind, or ice.
-Igneous rocks; are formed when volcanoes errupt
-Metamorphic rocks; are formed when it goes under heat and pressure

I learned that all rocks have a whole different cycle to take in the process of making them. Such as sedimentary needs water ad ice, igneous is formed by volcanos erupting and metamorphic is formed from igneous or sedimentary.

@Anna
I was wondering the same thing. I used to think that metamorphic was made of igneous not both sedimentary and igneous. I didn't think they could start out as metamorphic though.

i learned that only sedimentary or igneous rock can be changd into metamorphic

sedimentary-can still show there layers after years of heat and pressure or any other natural causes.

igneous-can cause many things. Are fomed by volcanos.

metamorphic-are formed by dramatic causes of igneuos or sedimentary rocks

I learned that Metamorphic rocks start off in the ground as setimentary or igneous and erupt and turn into the metamorphic rocks.

@BonnieLagrange
Thatg is interesting to see that there are two rocks that formed and then they both are able to orm the third type of rock.

hutson,cody said...

@Reddington, David I thought they were two different things too since when were they from the same place?

I learned that Sedimentary rocks are created witht the help of wind and water and igneous rock is formed by volcanoes.

Bader, Lucas said...

sediment rocks are created when rocks are exposed by geologic processes and time, sedimentary formations can still show their layers even when twisted and changed, volcanic heat and pressure.

walter burkart said...

metamorphic is the greek word for change in form

Natalie said...

I learned that metamorphic can become any rock.

sedimentary rocks are formed from materials that shifted from place to place. molten rocks called megma rise to earths mantle deep under ground and formes igneous rocks. metamorphic rocks are changed by heat pressure or chemical action.

For sedimentary that wind, gravity, water, and ice are all factors in it. Another thing is that even after earthquakes and being moved around alot they still show their layers!

For Igneous I learned that volcanoes that erupt have a sort of plug on the top that flies into the air. I wonder what happends when it hits ground.

For metamorphic I learned nothing. I already knew what it taught!

I only put down what a learned, not what I already knew.

Igneous rocks erupt from volcanoes as lava or pumice.
Metamorphic rock is changed by heat and pressure or chemical action or geologicc time.

@Anna, Sanzere

No rocks start out as metamorphic. They were all changed, In fact I bet that all metamorphic rocks that ever existed were made by sedimentary and igneous rocks. They didn't just start out that way.

I learned that methamorphic rocks start as sedimentry rocks or igneous rocks but i though that they stated just as methaporphi.
