Are you ready to be a storm chaser?

Read this article and see if you have what it takes to be a storm chaser.  What are some good reasons to be a storm chaser.  Read this article and go to the other links in the article such as Storm Chasers on the Hunt, The Basic Gear for a storm chaser, and Why Chase Storms.  Then play the video.  How long do chasers have to wait to get to see a storm?  Do they always get to see a storm?

How storm chasers work

They have to wait 12 hours. But to them its all worth it if they see a tornado or hurricane. They want to be there to record and observe it. They dont always get to see a storm, they may have been to late. The storm could have already passed. But I would not want to be a storm chaser.

Peters,Jennifer said...

Storm chasers spend 12 hours or more chasing storms, although they spend so much time chasing they normally don't get a glimpse of the storm. The answer is no they don't always get to see a storm, like the video they made one wrong judgement and they missed the tornado and couldn't get the clip for the video. I would definitely not be able to be a storm chaser for many reasons. One being I hate storms, I hate seeing and hearing them. The only thing I want to do is run let alone run straight into the eye of it. I also would probably fall asleep during a high speed chase, I don't do well without my sleep.
Although I don't want to be a storm chaser it seems like a cool job to the people that woukld like to.

Peters,Jennifer said...

@Kaylee
Yes, there are many reasons they could have missed a tornado, hurricane, etc. I agree with you on the point that you don't want to be a storm chaser.

Schirmer,Brandon said...

it is a good thing to become a storm chaser mostly for scientific research. Storm chasers have to wait 8 to 12 hours. they dont always get to see a storm because the storm could of passed, it could not form into the type of storm they want, ect.

The storm chasers wait 1 to 12 and dont always get to see the storm.this is more dangerous than i thought and i think it would be amazing

ReddingtonDavid said...

@ Kaylee

why wouldnt you want to be one. it would be the coolest job in the world

They can spend more than 12 hours but it mostly lasts 8 to 12 hours .

Apparently stormchasers have to wait between 5 and 12 hours for the drive, and they may never even see a tornado.I would want to be a stormchaser b/c it would be exciting and it can make a living. Plus, you can contribute to the scientific community.

Anonymous said...

Storm Chasers wait for 12 hours, but the 12 hours they wait means the world for them. They do there job because they want to observe and record the hurricane or tornado. But they don't always see evry storm, they are sometime late on going to other places to see other awesome storms. The storm already passed. But i would never want to be a storm chaser!

Anonymous said...

@kaylee Thanks for not wanting to be a storm chaser! The only reason i don't is because i think it's dangrouse. But why do you not want to be a storm chaser?

Luke said...

@ brandon,
I have to respectfully disagree with you. I am sure a tornado that has turned into another storm is a pro for research, b/c it can teach about tornado behaviour.

Tyler said...

Storm chasers spend 6-12 hours chasing down a storm tome that sounds like a waste of time to me but for them they dont care if they get a storm. If they miss a storm then they just go on to the next one. storm chasing is not something i would not want to do because if you make a wrong move you could die.

They might drive 8 to 12 hours to not even see a tornado or intercept but its worth the driving and the risk to get some fotuage of the tornado or hurricane. i think storm chasing would be fun at first but then it would get kinda boring like it would lose its thrill

Lamping Ally said...

Good reasons are mostly scientific and many people make a living off taking pictures of storms.
Storm chasers pay very close attention to wheather across the untied states and travel up to 12 hours sometimes and hope to see a good storm. But wheather doesnt always turn out the way it sounds like so sometimes they drive and drive to see nothing.

Moehring,DeeAnna said...

Storm Chasers spend more than 12 hours chasing storms
Some good reasons to be a storm chaser is some people that get pictures can sell them and make a living from it. Also for scientific research.
They may not always see a storm, and sometimes they may pick the wrong way to go and miss the tornadoe like they did in the movie.
i would not like to be a storm chaser just because i always get scared to death when i hear the sirens, im terrfied to ever see a tornadoe but it seems like a cool job.

I would like to be a stormchaser some day. I think it would be a good job because tornados are one of natures most facinating things. They have to wait 12 hours before they can find a storm and track it down and set up everything for the procedure to run through properly. They dont always get storms and that is either because they are to late and they already passed or that they guessed the wrong direction that the storm (tornados, Hurricanes) are traveling in.

cirkovic, daniel said...

@ Peters,Jennifer

I agree. It would be hard to stay uo for 12 hours to do a job. Most people work for about 8 hours a day. I would be too tiring sitting in a car like that. It'sn a downer that they didn't get to see inside the tornado though. I wonder if they ever did?

Dupont, Noah said...

Storm chasers don't always see a storm and have to wait 12 or more hours at some times! I would never want this job for a few reasons. 1: Its too fast paced.

But dang, 12 hours or so? Sheeze thats alot of patience!

The good reasons about storm chasing are mainly for scientific research, but a few people make a living by selling the photos and videos.

Storms chasers chase for fun and excitement, money, research, community and friendship.

a good reason to be a storm chaser is for scientific research with which the could save lives. and cool photo or video footage. they have to wait 12 hours. no they dont always get to see a storm, because it might have been to late. I would like to be a storm chaser because i have always found it fascinating.

Most of the main reasons peole go storm chasing is for scientific research, another reson, for them, is because its fun. They wait 8 to 12 hours to see a storm and sometimes the never even get to see one. They have meteorologist training so thhey know what their doing and they saaid ametures should never try it. They have equiptment to follow the storm as it moves and see when a storm is forming before it even happens.

they have to wait 1-12 hours. if you ask me its kinda stupid to wait for a day so you can risk your life just to record and observe tornadoes and hurricanes in the name of science.so no i wouldn't like to be a storm chaser due for the wait and the risk.

Some good reasons to be a storm chaser are to do science research or to sell the footage or pictures of the storm. It is usualy 12 hours until they reach storm and sometimes they dont even see the storm
