A celebration of 50 years

Tuesday marks the 50th anniversary of the first human in space.  Look at this article and read about all of the many 'space firsts' which have occurred over the past 50 years.  Which one do you find most exciting and why?

The one that was most exciting was.
July 20, 1969 When Neil Armstrong became the first man to walk on the Moon during the Mission of Apollo 11.
This is the most exciting because Neil Armstrong's foot print is still on the moon and that's cool yet realy important.

i think that the most fascinating is sputnik bc it was the first thing to break free of the atmosphere and orbit the earth. the soviets finally perfected what the nazi space program started and showed going into space was possible.

i also think that July 20, 1969 was the most important date.
It is really important that he left the foot print because that shows a mark that he was the first foot print and the first man.

Luke said...

@ Anna,
its still on the moon bc there is no lunar wind. I do think thats wierd though.imagine if you could still see all of teh footprints on earth. u would see dino prints and human prints and animal prints.

Henson,Megan said...

The one that I thought was most exciting was the one on Dec. 15, 1970, which was the Venera 7. I thought it was the most exciting because itbecame the first space probe to land on Venus and successfully return data.

@ luke

i find that interesting because it is amasing what people did back then.

I agree, it is a really important that Neil walked on the moon, and I also think it is really cool that the footprint is still there.

July 21, 2004 -- SpaceShipOne becomes first private manned spaceship to fly into space in a suborbital flight. It accomplished the feat again several times in 2004 to win the Ansari X Prize. This one was the mo0st exciting to me. Thats really cool how it was the first one. And its cool it wasnt just once which is really neat for me to read about.

well neil armstrong thought "one small step for man, one huge leap for mankind" as he stepped on the moon.

and i dont see why he would have to have the bravery. others had space walked before so i dont know if he would be scared or not leaving the shuttle.

Neil Armstrong became the first man to walk on the Moon during the Mission of Apollo 11. i say it is the mostexiting because without him walking on the moon mankind would be so far set back, in that year that woyuld have made me so exited, you would learn so much for that small step for man but large step for mankind.

I find the most exciting when Alexi Leonov became the first human to walk in space because to be in your spaceship with other people and technology is frightening but you know you are the safest you can get but to finally get out of the spacecraft and walk into space is a big step. I would be very scared and I wonder how it would feel like to actually be in space by myself.

I find the first man in space I think was the most exciting of "space firsts". It happened on April 12th 50 years ago. I find it most exciting becasue it showed what was in space and that a human could accutaly be in space. This was the first step to the many discoveries we have found today.

Dupont, Noah said...

I find all of them interesting, mainly the Soviet ones. It's impressive how they are the ones to launch the space age, making satellites, first people orbiting Earth/in space. Yet us, the USA, take pretty much all credit for our accomplishments in space, thinking we're all that. The Russians started it and all cause we landed on the moon we think we're the best XD I find that funny. I mean, yes the moon is exciting, but getting into space was a HUGE accomplishment.

cirkovic, daniel said...

@Sanzere Anna

Neil's footprint is still on the moon because there is no wind on the moon. I think it is important because that is the first man that was on a space mass. That was also another step in our space discoveries.

Dupont, Noah said...

@Henry, Minning
I agree, being th first person in space must've been quite exciting. I would say more exciting than the first person on the moon. I mean cool first person on the moon, but first person in space is so much cooler!
